Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog Review
Once upon a time, there was a writer’s strike in a land known as Hollywood. Many people in this far away land were looking for some way to attain money. A man by the name of Joss Whedon, of “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” and “Firefly” fame, came up with the genius idea of a satirical superhero mini-series. But, unlike your typical mini-series, this one would be an internet exclusive. For the first few days, it was available to watch for free via Vimeo, but now it is available exclusively on iTunes. Oh and did I mention that it is a musical.
The story of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog revolves around Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris), who is attempting to join “The Evil League of Evil” while also trying to woo a girl, Penny (Felicia Day), who he does laundry with. But while attempting to appease “The League of Evil” he accidentally introduces his arch-nemesis, Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion), to Penny and they begin dating.
Without divulging any more details, I absolutely loved every aspect of this mini-series. It was charming, funny, and plain enjoyable. The music was suprisingly catchy and well-written and I have to admit that I will be purchasing the soundtrack when it is released in the coming weeks. Neil Patrick Harris, who plays Dr. Horrible did an awesome job of making you care for this seemingly “evil” character.
In an interview on The View, Neil Patrick Harris mentioned that on the DVD, which will be coming out in a few months, they will be creating a commentary track that will be entirely in song, something that I don’t think has ever been attempted.
So don’t be a cheap skate, pony up the $3.99 and purchase all 3 acts on iTunes now!
